The Technical Writer creates clear, concise, and accurate documentation for software products, internal processes, and user guides. This role translates technical information into user-friendly content for various audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Documentation Development: Create and maintain user manuals, installation guides, help documents, and FAQs for technical products and services.
- Information Gathering: Work with technical staff to gather and interpret technical information and product specifications.
- Quality and Clarity: Ensure all documentation is clear, accurate, and comprehensive, making complex information easy to understand for the intended audience.
- Documentation Design: Assist in the layout and design of documents, incorporating diagrams, screenshots, and other visual aids to enhance readability and user experience.
- Revision and Update: Regularly review and update existing documentation to ensure continued accuracy and relevance.
- Technical Support: Provide support by creating documentation that addresses common customer issues and questions.
- Style Guides: Adhere to company style guides and industry-standard practices to ensure consistency across all documentation.
- Project Management: Manage documentation projects, including planning, scheduling, and tracking progress to meet deadlines.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, or a STEM field.
- 2+ years of experience in technical writing or related documentation roles.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure
- Experience in a software or technology environment.
- Familiarity with tools like Confluence, Markdown, or XML authoring.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly learn technical products and tools.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
