Summary

The Purchasing Buyer will help coordinate purchases between the ODS facilities for job materials, plant and office supplies, equipment, and services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with production equipment and what supplies and services are required
  • Train and maintain an expertise in the use of the ODS online requisition and purchase order software
  • Review requistions to ensure required fields, documentation, signatures, approvals, are provided
  • Research vendors to best suit availability, price and quality for each product or service
  • Negotiate lower costs with vendors, solicits quotes, conducts bid evaluation, and negotiates optimium delivery schedules
  • Assist with RFP’s when required
  • Manage new item and new vendor setup
  • Resolve vendor invoicing issues as it relates to purchase orders
  • Review open purchase orders weekly
  • Follow up with vendors for confirmation that schedules will be maintained for on time delivery
  • Monitor shipments to ensure that goods are received in good quality, and in the event of problems, follow up with the Purchasing Manager
  • Submit any damage claims with vendors and follow up on receipt of new materials and or credits due
  • Communicate daily with Purchasing Manager to discuss any issues that may need to be addressed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics or Business Administration/Management or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a Purchasing Buyer
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, be detailed oriented and have the ability work within a fast paced environment
  • Strong decision making and being able to quickly ascertain a situation and decisive in solving it
  • Must have strong time management skills
  • Must have a strong knack for negotiation and networking
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Perform all work and activities with honesty and integrity 
  • Take personal responsibility for productivity, quality and timeliness of work
  • Effectively communicate (and listen) clearly, professionally, politely and persuasively in all situations; respond well and in a reasonable, timely manner

Working Conditions

Must be able to perform the essential job duties. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each work day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
