Summary

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Director of Tax to take on a pivotal role in managing the Tax function. The Director of Tax is a key member of the Finance Leadership team, directing all aspects of domestic and international tax, including reporting, compliance, and strategic planning for multiple entities. Additionally, they will design and implement global tax strategies to meet business goals, optimize the overall company position, and address complex tax challenges in a fast-paced and evolving business environment.

In order to succeed, a candidate should feel comfortable addressing tax issues with cross-functional teams, building strong collaborative relationships, and working autonomously with external advisors on a variety of tax matters. You need to bring a high level of technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to own the function from end to end. Excellent candidates will be able to demonstrate how they have implemented strategies to improve tax efficiency, streamline reporting processes, and drive innovation in tax procedures and compliance frameworks.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Provide expertise in individual, partnership, S corporation, and C corporation tax concepts, ensuring compliance and efficiency in tax reporting across a variety of entity types.
•    Analyze and plan for complex transactions such as buy/sell agreements, mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic business initiatives.
•    Collaborate with clients, attorneys, and financial advisors, offering strong expertise to support informed decision-making and ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws.
•    Serve as a resource for highly complex tax returns and issues, providing detailed guidance and solutions to internal stakeholders across multiple entities.
•    Handle exposure to various tax returns, including mergers, acquisitions, multistate, trust and estate, and complex strategies, ensuring all processes meet rigorous regulatory standards.
•    Lead and oversee the completion of all federal, state, and international income tax returns for multiple entities, working closely with outside consultants to enforce accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all relevant regulations and deadlines.
•    Manage the day-to-day operations of the Tax department, including:
     o    Maintenance of the tax calendar to monitor filing deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
     o    Responding promptly to tax notices and inquiries.
     o    Ensuring compliance with all domestic and international tax laws, including evolving regulations.
•    Review and refine tax policies and positions, providing strategic guidance on corporate tax issues such as payroll taxes, transfer pricing, cross-border compliance, and tax minimization strategies.
•    Direct the accounting for income taxes for all entities, including preparation of tax provisions in compliance with US GAAP, and partner with the Controllership team to ensure accurate recording of liabilities and disclosures.
•    Own the customer tax reporting program, ensuring collaboration with product teams to improve existing reporting processes and deliver an industry-leading customer experience that reflects regulatory compliance and innovation.
•    Lead special tax projects such as R&D relief claims, tax credits, cross-border tax strategies, and process improvement initiatives, collaborating closely with business partners, including other finance functions, Product, Operations, and Tech teams.
•    Develop best-in-class tax processes to enable efficiencies, enhance accuracy, and establish effective internal controls over tax reporting and compliance frameworks.
•    Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors for all tax-related matters, ensuring smooth communication and resolution of any audit-related issues.
•    Monitor and implement changes to tax laws and regulations, ensuring the company remains compliant and proactively adjusts strategies to minimize risks and optimize opportunities.
•    Assist with other ad hoc projects as necessary, demonstrating flexibility and leadership in addressing emerging challenges and opportunities.
 

Qualifications & Requirements

Education and Certification
•    Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA/EA/JD strongly preferred and will be an important factor in the determination.
•    Advanced degree (e.g., MBA or Master’s in Accounting) is a plus.

Experience and Technical Skills
•    Experience in manufacturing / Private Equity / Investment Advisory / Broker/Dealer industries is a plus.
•    10+ years of experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax leadership roles, including preparing and reviewing complex tax returns and planning for intricate transactions with significant financial implications.
•    Proficiency in Excel, including advanced functions such as macros and data analysis tools to streamline tax calculations and reporting processes.
•    Experience with State and Local Tax (SALT) and multistate tax regulations, with a proven ability to navigate complex jurisdictions effectively.
•    Knowledge of individual, S-corp, partnership, trust, estate, and C-corp tax returns, with a strong understanding of their unique challenges and requirements.
•    Familiarity with international tax concepts, including transfer pricing and cross-border compliance, is strongly preferred and will enhance the candidate’s fit for this role.
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with cross-functional teams, external advisors, and regulatory authorities.
•    Proven track record of developing and implementing tax strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure compliance across diverse operational landscapes.
•    Experience with technology tools and tax software, including leveraging automation to streamline tax processes and enhance data accuracy.
•    Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced, complex environment that demands innovative thinking and strategic planning.


 

Working Conditions

Must be able to perform essential job duties.  Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each workday), hear the telephone, and enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
