Summary

The Managing Director, Event & Arbitrage Trading establishes the firm's event-driven advisory and trade execution strategy. The role advises clients on complex event-driven investment opportunities while overseeing the development and execution of advisory and trading strategies across merger arbitrage, special situations, restructurings, spin-offs, tender offers, and other corporate events. The Managing Director serves as the firm's senior authority for event-driven investment strategy and client advisory.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish the firm's event-driven advisory and trade execution strategy.
  • Advise clients on merger arbitrage, special situations, and other event-driven investment opportunities.
  • Oversee the development and execution of event-driven advisory and trading strategies.
  • Evaluate significant corporate events, transaction structures, and market developments affecting investment opportunities.
  • Develop investment frameworks, analytical methodologies, and best practices supporting client advisory services.
  • Provide strategic guidance to clients on investment strategy, portfolio construction, and risk management.
  • Represent the firm's event-driven investment capabilities with clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and corporate actions impacting client portfolios.
  • Promote continuous enhancement of advisory processes, investment analytics, and trading practices.
  • Ensure compliance with investment policies, fiduciary standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • MBA and/or CFA preferred.
  • Typically requires 15+ years of progressively responsible institutional investment experience.
  • Expert knowledge of merger arbitrage, special situations, and event-driven investing.
  • Deep understanding of portfolio construction, investment strategy, and institutional risk management.
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and investment analysis capabilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of corporate actions, transaction structures, and capital markets.
  • Exceptional client advisory, strategic thinking, and communication skills.

Working Conditions

Must be able to perform the essential job duties. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each work day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
